HIV/AIDS, Biggest Concern for the Country but Who Cares?

HIV/AIDS has always been the Discordia’s concern. The prevalence rate (2004 est.) is 5.9%, which is alarmingly high when compared with countries such as the United States (0.6%). The prevalence is the highest in the capital and also the diamond areas north of Rosebury. With such sluggish economy and high HIV/AIDS rate, should the government not launch any efforts to combat this threatening concern? Are there any NGO out there who can put efforts to alleviate this issue rather than shouting for democracy while people are dying from hunger and disease?
We are glad that Ezekiel Zweete, Minister of Education, has called for improvement in the health sector by cautiously endorsing measures to combat HIV/AIDS while on his agenda, he would like to divert part of future oil revenues to AIDS. However, different government officials within the government hold different opinions and therefore consensus has to be achieved before any action can be taken.
