The Mentor: End of the world

We have it on good authority that the world has ended.

Message from Simulation Organiser

All:

in view of progress we have decided to Freeze the Simulation as of 1130, instead of 1200 as previously announced.

You will now have from 1130 to 1330 to prepare our debrief presentations, which will then start.

I will give a short explanation at 1130 of what is needed in the debriefs.

Best Wishes: Donal O'Neill

Dwarf Rhinos in Trouble

Both Cromwell and Nosferatu are in negotiations with the government regarding operations. No decisions have been made other than the decision of the pipeline location, which is to be in the Endur Valley.

This will inevitably lead to deforestation and extinction of the Dwarf Rhino. Why is the gov not proposing new routes??

The Protector: Rhinos Wrecking Havoc

Dwarf rhinoceros reported rooting within Block 77 facility, causing interruption to service and damaging Cromwell oil construction equipment

Gov Claims Corruption

Government claims that the Minster of Defense is corrupt and has broken away from the government.

They claim that he has been connected to illegal logging activities, the murder of Mr. Miyarnu, and an attempt to kill the president.

The Protector: Enweh prepared for War

The Enweh Tribe has released the following message:

"The Enweh people will no longer passively sit and wait for corrupt government officials to figure out new ways to ruin the lives on their constituents. We are barricading our village from the outside world and blocking access to Block 77. We are prepared to do whatever is necessary to support the Enweh village’s ability to take care of its people, who are dying every day and are in dire need of health supplies and agricultural development.

We are prepared to use whatever means necessary to have our voice heard. "

Government Agreement with Shared Heritage

The U.S. and UK governments that have been watching the deteriorating economic condition of the area has entrusted Share Heritage with a substantial fund to start a large scale development program. To this end, we reached out to the Enweh villagers, local government, and the industry in order to create a holistic program that would have sustainable results.

Shared Heritage had a successful meeting with the new government which has agreed to work closely with us in building the infrastructure for the local community.

UPDATE

The government of Concordia are stalling the deal to grab even more money than the $1.5B to $3.7B per annum that will receive already. Specifically, Concordia demands an upfront “permit fee” in excess of $350MM from Cromwell.

The logging industry accounts for well over 10% of Concordia’s GNP. If boycotts on exports were to happen, combined with declining production of diamonds & cocoa (despite government claims), the government would be in deep trouble – they are desperate to secure an oil deal, but playing like they have all the power.

Elections?

CDUL desires for the conference to also address a date for elections.

In breaking news of the success between CDUL and ARF rebels, ARF rebels now ally themselves with the Concordian government and have agreed to a cessation of violence in Concordia and now serve the people.

CDUL is proud and continues to be an advocate for parties interested in the development of the Concordian People- ethical and transparent development of resources and government systems.

BREAKING NEWS

Ezekiel Zweete, the new President of Concordia, has scheduled a presentation with the James Buchanan Council to discuss his new programs for the country.

To make this information available to the international community, the event will be held in New York City

NGO meeting with new administration - WORLD WATCHING

In a meeting with ANGO, OBI, CDUL, and the new administration, the government agreed to the following:

· Transparency – all NGOs are welcome to attend meetings between the government and Cromwell/Nosferatu

· Revenue allocation of approximately $600M for education, economic development, and health

· Disclose terms of contractual agreements

Britain and the international community are cautiously watching to see if the new administration follows in the footsteps of the former administration or honor its promise.

Enweh wants a VOICE

The Enweh people are planning a revolt if they are not included in discussions. This could get violent, people.

Script from Gov/Cromwell/Nosferatu Negotiations

Gov: Windfall tax is fair and will help people of Concordia.

Cromwell: We haven’t gotten past the Windfall tax.

Nosferatu: 80% gov tax, 100% Nosferatu control of oil, 50/50 split, Cromwell not in picture, pipeline through Endur Valley

Cromwell: Windfall tax - $80/bbl + incremental increase, no refinery, gas treatment for fertilizer sustainability, pipeline through Endur Valley, Nosferatu not in picture, OBI to broker financing 50/50 gov/cromwell,

Gov: long term needs: economic, political, development stability for long-term growth. We need a pipeline and a refinery. Need assistance with financing.

OBI:

Cromwell: Serious question as to the economic viability for a refinery. If we give gov a loan for a refinery, and the refinery isn’t profitable, we won’t get our money back.

Gov: WE need a refinery for energy independence. Infrastructure in city. Thousands of jobs.

Protect the Endor Valley

Shared Heritage is concerned about the environmental repercussions of placing the pipelines along the Endor Valley. This will lead to the extinction of the Dwarf Rhino and facilitate illegal logging. This is more reason for Cromwell to step forth with its pipeline plans to avoid the destruction of the environment.

Shared Heritage is also reaching out to the people of Enweh and the government for their cooperation in this planning process.

The Mentor: The world this hour

Politics

Villagers of Enweh, Concordia (formerly Discordia) feel deserted by all local representation -- with the exception of Cromwell, the Brittish oil company which is in talks with the local government to explore and produce energy.

The new Concordian government held a press conference at 10:10 to anounce the removal of their corrupt finance minister, and chief negotiator.

The Shavian goverment is still on the brink of a social uprising as mass unemployment looms.

Business

Ambivilance towards allegedly illegal logging has caused an "ethical" investor to shed Cromwell stock. Shares closed down at 376.
Developing: Explosion in Block 77, Malaria in Emweh Village

The Washington Patriot: Lester McCoy reporting

Emweh villagers have reported there was an explosion in Block 77. They have also indicated that there has been a recent outbreak of malaria in the village. These developments lend credence to the recent concerns voiced by the people as published earlier this morning in the Mentor.

Explosion at Block 77 and a child with malaria.

Ethical standards: our first value!

Despite all the gossip about illegal logging, Cromwell is still committed to its ethical standards, to protect the environment and to improve the quality of life of the local community in Concordia.

"We are disappointed that some investors still believe in false accusations perpetrated by the press", said Cromwell's Chairman this morning during a meeting with Friends of the Dwarf Rhino.

Repudiation of violence and progress

The CDUL has conducted good faith discussions with the NWA/GDA government in recent weeks. The government is willing to address the development goals assessed by the US for Concordia. However, they have not been able to associate a % or $ value on the amount of aid to those projects. Until that time, CDUL would like to see more talks and decisions made by the government.

In continuing its call for transparency and unity, CDUL asks for international regulators and governments to apply pressure on the Concordian Government to set a definite date for free and fair elections, which it has presented earlier this year.

The hopes of the Concordian people rest on receiving the benefits of the oil development and for elections. It is becoming more urgent day by day in light of this issue.

Request for forum on Enweh development

The Concordian Amity League on behalf of ANGO is calling for a meeting of all organizations at 11am in the AFC. The intent of this meeting will be to discuss the goals and objectives of development in the country.

• Moderated by a neutral party (The Gladstone Gardian)
One representative from each interest group allowed to sit on the panel
• Inform the Concordian public about the updates to the development
• Opportunity for all parties to dispel rumors
• International Media will be present
• Opportunity for the government to prove that it is acting in the best interest of its people

This forum will be open for public observation.

Peace is what Concordia Needs.

CDUL is willing to open peace talks with Concordian government and officials in order to find common ground in the name of harmony and reconciliation.

Furthermore, CDUL emphasizes its neutrality and non-partisan stance, representing the largest coalition of Concordians.

The Protector: Posting LIVE from Gov/Cromwell Meeting!

The GDA/NWA has a new open door policy. We are sitting in on discussions between Cromwell and the GDA/NWA and will post updates as they come.

EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATLY

  • The government of Concordia has announced a new President, the former minister, Matt Scholin
  • Members of the NWA have taken roles as ministers in the new government
  • The Minister of Defense will remain in his position and currently control's the nation's military
  • The government has given exclusive development rights of Block 77 to NOS
  • The terms of the agreement are forthcoming

International Community Reacts

The international community is standing behind Ambrosia as the face for peace and prosperity for Concordia.

They unilaterally support her and will come to the country's aid if necessary.

The UN security council is currently meeting to discuss the situation and how best to support the Concordia government

Ethical Investor sheds Cromwell Stock

London: Investor Journal, September 15th
=========================================

Announcing its decision to divest its Cromwell Stock, the Ethical Investment Mutual Fund "Green Accumulation" spokesperson Beth Imker, stated yesterday: "we take this step more in sorrow than in anger. We've held Cromwell stock for several years because we were impressed by their ethical stance. Our doubts about them started with their repudiation of the impact assessment prepared for them by Odiham Associates for their development in Discordia. Recent revelations in The Protector, and by Wikidrain, that Cromwell's plans for Discordia may unwittingly, and carelessly, be opening up the Endor valley to illegal logging, is the last straw. We're selling off."

Cromwell shares closed at 376 and it is rumored that the "Green Accumulation" holding, possibly as much as 1% of total stock, was purchased by a mystery buyer whom many identify as Nosferatu.

The Protector: Breaking News- Rebellion Government is Forming

A rebellion Government is forming in residence to the NWA and GDA due to several issues: no democratic elections, transparency issues in business dealings, and lack of concern for the Concordia people.

Breaking News

The former Chief Negotiator and former Defense Minister's relationship has been exposed.

In an effort to promote a transparent government, both of them have been removed from power and are currently on the run from the government.

This is them pictured during the workday spending government dollars.

The Defense Minister is hiding behind a mask in this picture to avoid detection.

Government of Concordia: Be Aware of What's Happening in the Timber Industry!

Prices of exotic woods have gone down, anticipating an increase in supply – perhaps due to Cromwell’s plans to lay pipeline down the Endor Valley.

Furthermore, the Fifth Infantry Batallion, whom Cromwell plans to hire for security at Block 77, has been tied to illegal logging operations.

Because Concordia so heavily relies on the timber industry – shouldn’t the government intervene.

Dear Sir:

I am a UK-based supplier of high quality furniture, sourced from two factories owed by myself and my partner and located in the Caribbean. I am interested in securing a reliable supply of furniture-grade West African hardwood at reasonable prices. My annual requirement is approximately 125 tons and a competitive price is essential. The source of your wood will be important to me as I am interested only in sawn tropical hardwood of high-medium to high-high grade. Please also indicate where you are based.

Yours faithfully: E. Litmo

Dear Mr(?) Litmo:

Sovereign Exotic Woods is based in Macao and sources timber of the quality you require from a number of countries in West Africa and elsewhere. Depending on your requirements full documentation can be provided as regards sourcing. As you are no doubt aware documentation requirements are less stringent for importation of sawn timber to Caribbean nations than were the same material to be exported directly to Europe or North America. I understand that you export only finished furniture, and not undressed timber, to the UK or elsewhere. Please be assured that Sovereign Exotic Woods can satisfy any requirements you may have.

Please indicate your main sources of supply. Also provide information on any ethical timber-sourcing accreditations your company may have and whether you are a member of any international or national timber-trade federations or organisations which set standards for responsible sourcing. Please also provide information on your main countries of supply.

Dear Edgar:

Sovereign sources from a range of countries in West Africa and South-East Asia. If you have a preference for a specific source or quality, this can usually be accommodated. Have you any specific requirements? In all cases necessary documentation and certification of origin sufficient for importation to the UK can be provided. Documents for importation elsewhere can also be provided though of course you will understand that extra costs may be involved for this. Sovereign is not a member of any organization of the type you specify but does of course operate to the highest standards of ethical and sustainable sourcing.

Dear Jeremy:

My company has a particular requirement for high-high quality sawn timber from Discordia as customers for our finished products rate highly the colour and close grain of such timber and as it has achieved a scarcity value hen supplies were cut off during the recent Civil War. As the market will stand a significant premium for the even more subtle colours associated with exotic hardwoods from Discordia please indicate if any timber can be obtained from this source. My company is in particularly interested in Robur Oak, of which we understand the last significant reserves exist in Discordia‘s Endor Valley.

Dear Edgar:

On the attachment to this message you will find a price list for hardwood timber, including Robur Oak, sourced from Discordia, with appropriate discounts for volume and for any level of documentation and certification you require. Sovereign can supply highest quality exotic hardwood from Discordia, depending on your requirements, at rates that at present will be 10-15% lower, depending on volume and quality, than for comparable woods form South-East Asia. We have reason to believe however that costs will fall even further in the near future as new access and export routes are opened in Discordia. In this case Sovereign will give preference to supplying its existing customers. Sovereign has good relations with suppliers and authorities in Discordia and is well placed to satisfy all demands.

Dear Jeremy:

Should high-grade Thibaw teak be available the my annual requirement could be as much as 200 tons and several business associates of mine could be interested in similar quantities, bringing aggregate annual requirement above 1000 tons. A long-term supply deal could be of interest, primarily for Robur Oak, and would be dependent on secure supply undertakings. Please indicate your reasons for stating that increased supplies from Discordia are likely in near future as I understand that current road links do not permit significant logging on year-round basis.

Dear Edgar:

Our agents in Discordia inform us that the British oil company Cromwell Energy has a signed undertaking with the Discordian Government to construct a road and pipeline through Discordia’s Endor Valley in the next two years. This region is, as you know, rich in Robur Oak forests which until now have been difficult to access. Once the Cromwell corridor is in place access tracks can be run off it easily to reach these reserves. Our associates in Discordia are well placed to source the necessary labor and funding to initiate large-scale logging in these areas. Credible documentary evidence of sustainable sourcing will be provided to whatever level is required. At this stage a meeting to discuss next steps would be appropriate. Please let me know where would be convenient.

Breaking News

The army has declared that it is with the new Defence Minister, Ambrosia

BREAKING NEWS

Chief Negotiator has been effectively removed from power

Press Release: An Interim Defense Minister

The current Defense Minister, William Halakazi, has been removed from his position for crimes against humanity, including kidnapping and alleged murder. There is a warrant out for his arrest. Effective immediately, Ambrosia Stephenson is now the new Defense Minister. The government of Concordia is taking necessary action to protect the safety of our people.

Promise from Concordia government - will they honor their word?

In a meeting between ANGO, CDUL, OBI, and the newly unified Concordia government, the government agreed to the following terms:

- Transparency - all NGOs invited to meetings/negotiations
- Contractually apply revenue to projects (approximately $600M to community reinvestment - economic development, education and health
- Agreed to full disclosure of contract terms

Britian and the international community wait cautiously to see if the new administration will follow in the steps of its predecessors or stay true to its commitments.

ANGO meets with Cromwell. Nosferatu next?

In stark comparison to the lack of amicable and productive talks with the newly unified Concordia government, ANGO chose to meet directly with Cromwell. The company has agreed to participate in open discussions with ANGO and Enweh.

In the interests of involving all stakeholders in the ongoing negotiations, ANGO welcomes the opportunity to meet with Nosferatu.

Unity is Way of the Future

Even though the country is united, it is a delicate situation.

UN Security Council recently commented "Any threat to the stability of the government could potentially lead to civil war."

Free and fair elections NOW!

On behalf of the international community and ANGO, Humanity First calls for free and fair elections in Concordia. If the newly unified government is to live up to its promises to serve the people's interests, it MUST support the people's right to choose a representative government.

Any further delay will force Humanity First to appeal to the UN and the international community to investigate the true intentions and motivations of the newly unified government of Concordia.

The Mentor: Cromwell board seat opening?

In light of the recent information regarding Nosferatu's 15% stake in Cromwell, sources close to the matter believe that Nosferatu will be making a play for a board seat at Cromwell. With this influence Nosferatu could ensure a piece of the Concordia deal, related arms sales, and may sustain Shavia through it's recent economic trials.

Concordia Officials Meet with NGOs & Enweh Village

Concordia government officials met with Humanity First, the DAL, the CDUL, and the Enweh Village elder for initial talks. There were discussions of how a portion of the profits from Block 77 will be allocated to various initiatives: infrastructure, healthcare, education, and civic services.

Cromwell's Mystery Buyer Revealed?

London: Investor Journal Aug 5th
================================

"The recent report in Discordia/Concordia's Gladstone Guardian newspaper that the mystery buyer of Cromwell stock may be Nosferatu sounds credible," said veteran analyst Michaela Robinson yesterday. "If true it means that Nosferatu may have much as 15% of teh stock and may be contemplating a takeover."

Amid rumors of stalled negotiations between Cromwell and the Discordian Government for development of Block 22, and reports of serious security concerns in the area of the block, including disappearance of a vocal critic of Cromwell, Cromwell's stock has fallen back to 379.

"Cromwell remains a juicy acquisition target," says respected analyst Silas Grimshawe. "They have good producing assets an excellent technology. Their operaitng costs could be cut significantly if their gold-plated standards were reduced, thereby boosting profitability. I'm not surprised that Nosferatu may be sniffing around them>"

Concordia Succession Plan

Although the President is in a fantastic health condition, and fully committed to leading the country of Concordia, a succession plan has already been develop to ensure the long term peace of the country.

Should anything happen to the President of Concordia, the Vice-President will immediately lead the country.

The entire government, including GDA and North West Alliance, are in support of this plan.

Is this progress?

This is what happens when big oil comes to "rescue" African countries from poverty:

Gas flaring behind villager

A village water source turned to black

No fish to be found in this oil marred pond

Is this 2008 or the Industrial Revolution? Should children be exposed to such dangerous conditions?

Stop Cromwell Oil from ruining Dis/Concordia in its pursuit of greed. Development can be sustainable and eco-friendly.

The Mentor: Opinion--Cordia prefixes

While Discordia may have changed their name to Concordia, is the country truely unified? While the rift between the GDA and NWA may be mended,
little has been done to align the government with the needs and wants of the people. We would like to see the Concordian government take steps to ensure country-wide domestic prosperity following windfall profits, and hope not to find offshore bank accounts and private yachts.
